This weekend is my husband's first Father's Day and to celebrate we are away with his family camping and dirt biking. Even though I'm not with my family today, I still wanted to do a quick shout out to my dad, Tracy Nelson who is also my business partner (along with my mom); yes, you can add web host to the list of family businesses out there, because Ovaleye definitely qualifies.
Many of you know my dad as the man behind the curtain. He very rarely makes public appearances or goes in front of the camera, but is incredibly influential when it comes to behind the scenes work. He is our "Technical Director and Chief Order Taker," but his role goes beyond that.

In our recent episode of SOHO Insights mom and I took some time to share our pro/con list when it comes to partnering together as mother and daughter in business. After 4 years working in and on Ovaleye together one of the top questions I still get asked is "what's it like partnering with your mom?" My answer is always something along the lines of "it works really well for us," in which their reply is "I could never work with my mom everyday."

As I've mentioned before in my old SOHO Wife blog, I am a total list maker, and I know many of you are. Mom and I recently sat down to plan our our latest SOHO Insights episode on being a mother/daughter business after she vetoed my Spring Cleaning concept saying that was absolutely no fun at all... agreed. We talked about what it has been like for the last four years and created two lists, the first is a pro/con list for mothers (or daughters) who are thinking about going into business together and the second piece is our three tips for what has made our partnership successful.
Tomorrow I'll post the three tips, while below you will find our pro/con list. You can of course, check it all out on our SOHO Insights Episode 19.
PRO "As a mom I can talk to my daughter any time I want."
Mom has been known for the occasional 3AM text message, emails when she is at the gym, and phone calls during dinner.
CON Your mom calls you all the time.
... was my exact repines to her prior pro. I kid, of course. I call my mom just as much as she calls me. Communication is really what will make or break a partnership so I never mind an early AM text here and there.
